Journal Review Room

Check the source before trusting the claim.

A journal page, DOI, abstract, or database record is the start of review, not the end. Use this room to inspect journals, article metadata, peer-review signals, retractions, licenses, and conflicts.

Journal check

  1. Find the journal title and ISSN.
  2. Check NLM Catalog, DOAJ, Crossref, and the journal website.
  3. Look for peer-review policy, editorial board, publication fees, conflict-of-interest policy, correction/retraction policy, and publisher identity.
  4. Check whether the article is a preprint, commentary, special issue item, or peer-reviewed article.
  5. Use Retraction Watch database search or publisher correction notices when a claim is high-stakes.
